Mobile phones have 18 times more bacteria than toilet handle

A man holds his iPhone 4 in front of a mobile phone store in Tokyo. Phones can accumulate huge amounts of bacteria

They are pretty much essential, but you may want to ditch your mobile phone for ever after reading this.

The average handset carries 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a flush handle in a men's toilet, tests have revealed.

An analysis of handsets found almost a quarter were so dirty that they had up to ten times an acceptable level of TVC bacteria.

Lohan sentenced to jail

[AAP] Troubled Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan sobbed and pleaded but a judge still slapped her with 90 days in jail for violating probation in two 2007 drunken driving cases.

The actress burst into tears after Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel handed down the jail sentence on Tuesday, and ruled Lohan must undertake an in-patient rehab program.

Revel issued the sentence after listening to testimony from employees of an alcohol treatment program that Lohan had been ordered to attend.

Lohan missed seven classes since December, which led to the judge's harsh rebuke moments after the Mean Girls star offered a tearful apology.

"I did do everything I was told to do and did the best I could to balance jobs and showing up," Lohan told the judge.

"It wasn't vacation, it wasn't some sort of a joke.

"I'm not taking this as a joke and this is my life. This is my career and everything I've worked for for my whole life. If I had known I had to be here every week, I would've balanced it - work and everything ... It's just been such a long haul," she added.

The judge however would have none of it, likening Lohan to "someone who cheats and only thinks it's cheating if she gets caught".

iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features

1 of 25 OLED screen
iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features

Before Apple released the iPhone 3GS, a lot of people were hoping it would have an OLED screen (yes, the Zune HD has one). We're not sure that's necessarily the best idea because OLEDs, though superbright, are emissive and hard to read in direct sunlight. But we'll throw it on the list for those who are still hankering for an iPhone with an OLED screen.

Odds of implementation: 15 percent

iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features
It's hardly a must-have upgrade, but it would be cool to swipe your finger--instead of enter a password--to unlock your phone. (Image note: Allegedly, Apple has filed some patents related to this feature).

Odds of implementation: 20 percent

3 of 25 Better sound from built-in speakers
iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features
We don't expect Apple to improve the iPhone's internal speakers that much, but we'd like to see the external sound capabilities augmented a bit. To make our point, we used DecalGirl iPhone wallpaper.

4 of 25 Better Google Voice support

iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features
Apple and Google aren't exactly pals anymore, but we'd still like to see better support for Google Voice (of course, AT&T may have more of a say in this than Apple).

Odds of implementation: 50 percent

5 of 25 More memory

iPhone 4G: 25 most-wanted features
It's highly likely that the iPhone 4G will come with more memory for the same amount of money. If the past is any indication, a 64GB iPhone should run $299 (with contract) and the 32GB version will be $199. Whether Apple will offer an 8GB or 16GB model at $99 remains to be seen. Also, the entry-level model might become an 8GB or 16GB iPhone 3GS.

Odds of implementation: 100 percent

Pacquiao wins unanimous decision over Clottey

Pacquiao wins unanimous decision over Clottey

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Fighting on the star, Manny Pacquiao showed once again why he is the star.

With the biggest fight crowd in the U.S. in 17 years cheering him on at Cowboys Stadium, Pacquiao dominated a strangely passive Joshua Clottey from the opening bell Saturday night to retain his welterweight title and cement his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

The fight wasn't close, and it was never in doubt. It was so one-sided that those in the cheap seats among the crowd of 50,994 could tell without even looking at the giant video screens over the ring that Pacquiao was in total command.
